The Communicating Climate Change E-Learning Course

From understanding barriers to impactful messaging to developing practical skills in areas including framing, storytelling, and use of resonant language, you’ll hone your abilities to engage, empower, and activate audiences on all things climate with this new foundational course from Communicating Climate Change.

Made up of bite-sized modules for fast and effective learning, this course is offered exclusively in partnership with Creatives for Climate, a network of more than 45,000 marketing, communications, PR, and advertising professionals working to transition the creative industries away from promoting pollution and towards accelerating solutions.

We’re not just facing a climate crisis, we’re also facing a communications crisis: Confusion, misinformation, political divides, feelings of powerlessness, a sense that it’s all happening on the other side of the world, or maybe in rooms we don’t have access to.

All these issues - and more - can be barriers on the way to meaningful climate action. And traditional approaches to communicating climate change, with their emphasis on hard science, facts, data, guilt, fear, and very few real, specific, tangible actions folks can take to make a difference, often fail to resonate with audiences. Meaning many people feel disconnected from the broader issue.

But communication is one of the most powerful tools we have to influence others - If we do it right.

As social change scholar, Susi Moser, explained in the very first episode of the Communicating Climate Change podcast, “When it comes to communicating climate change, there are ways to do it better and ways to do it worse. And we’ve been doing it worse for a long time.”

The good news is, research shows that a better way is possible. By paying attention to these insights, and the wide range of perspectives and expertise that they champion, we can bridge the gap.

This is exactly what the Communicating Climate Change e-learning course brings to the table.

On the course, you’ll:

  • Go on a climate communications adventure that brings together insights spanning academia, industry, and the experience of a kaleidoscope of experts.

  • Develop your understanding barriers to impactful messaging.

  • Enjoy practical exercises along the way, to anchor all that you learn, and a ton of resources for further learning and research.

Not all climate communication is created equal. But we have the opportunity to reshape the and drive the change that’s urgently needed.

As the architects of society’s desires, creatives have a role to play in reshaping the status quo and making meaningful change. This foundational course in communicating climate change is aimed at helping you kick-start your journey of doing exactly that.
